Astrology for May 2023 with Janet Parfitt

In May things get intense.  The message from Cerridwen is that we are all going to go through transformation and change, whether we like it or not!  On the 1st of May Pluto goes retrograde which sets the scene for the rest of the month.  When any planet goes retrograde, you are being asked to take that planet’s energy and use it to look back at your past.  Pluto is, to my mind, Cerridwen’s planet because it is all about transformation, death, and re-birth.  So, this is your chance to have a look in the rear-view mirror and think about what changes you have been through and what worked and what didn’t.  Ask yourself; what would I do again?  What would I not do again and why?

The energy ramps up even more with a lunar eclipse in Scorpio on the 5th of May.  Eclipses are portals of change and this one is in Scorpio; the sign of death and re-birth so be prepared to do some very deep soul work.  This aspect is all about dying in some way so that you can be reborn.  But for the re-birth to happen something has got to give.  The Sun will be at the astrological Beltane point and the Moon will be at the astrological point for Samhain.  This will be a perfect time to let go of all that does not serve you.

On the 7th of May, Venus enters Cancer.  Mars is already in Cancer and Saturn is in Pisces, so all this watery energy enhances our compassion.  On the 15th of May Mercury turns direct which will make communication and travel a lot easier.  On the 16th Jupiter enters Taurus.  Jupiter’s expansive knowledge could increase around the areas of money and food.  In this position Jupiter will be square Pluto, magnifying yet more opportunities for transformation and growth.

On the 19th of May there is a new Moon in Taurus.  The planet Venus rules this sign, and it often touches upon our feeling of self-worth, both financially and emotionally.  What value do we give to ourselves?  This could be a chance for some kind of fresh start around these ideas.

The 20th of May sees Mars enter Leo, which brings the courage of the lion/ess but can also bring out the ego, depending on whether we respond to the positive or negative aspect of this sign.  At this time, the Sun and Moon in Taurus will also be square Pluto in Aquarius.  The emotions and the ego could start to dig in their heels and be resistant to all this change.  It is time to roll with the punches.  The more we resist, the more Cerridwen will drag us through transformation kicking and screaming.  There is no avoiding change at this time so better to just walk through these portals with as much grace as we can muster.
