Priestess Janet: Astrology for the Autumn
Astrology from the Autumn Equinox to Samhain 2024
Welcome to your latest astrology article. I love this time of year when the leave burst into colour; that slight mustiness in the air, mushrooms and bright autumn sunshine. Having spent a lot of time as a student, I always feel that this time of the year feels like a time of new beginnings, full of potential. It never feels like an ending to me but a time of growth, for learning new things, and grasping new opportunities. Cerridwen of Earth is a stabilising influence. That sense of putting down roots and anchoring ourselves in the soil, held and protected in Her love is a very special thing indeed.
On the 22nd of September the Sun enters Libra bringing a sense of harmony into the world. Libra is all about balance so it is appropriate that it should be at this time that we have the Equinox with an equal amount of time between light and dark. It is a very Libran thing to reconcile opposites. Librans abhor excess. They want people to get along with each other. But sometimes in their efforts to bring harmony they can allow abusive behaviour because they hate confrontation so much.
On the 23rd Venus enters Scorpio. This is not the happiest position for Venus and can lead to jealous and obsessive love. In real love, people do not manipulate each other. So don’t use power over people nor allow them to use power over you.
On the 26th Mercury enters Libra. Your thoughts turn to ways of being more harmonious. Libra, being the sign of the Scales, also rules justice so there may be some legal matters which might need attending to or some matters relating to equality and fairness.
On the 2nd of October there is a new Moon in Libra which is also an annular Solar Eclipse. Eclipses are portals that can open up opportunities that didn’t exist before. In ancient times eclipses were associated with the death of Kings. All the Libran themes of harmony/disharmony, justice/unfairness will be highlighted. Eclipses are not the best time to make important decisions because, with the Sun in front of the Moon or the Moon in front of the Sun, something is always hidden. The full facts are often obscured so wait until the eclipse is over before making any really important decisions.
Also on the 2nd, Mercury is conjunct Lilith. Lilith represents our real power. Who we are underneath it all. And if people try to hurt us Lilith will respond with rage. She is strong. She is powerful. And She is not to be messed with. If someone tries to hurt you at this time there is a possibility that some very hurtful things could be said. By all means, stand up for yourself but be careful not to escalate things too quickly.
On the 3rd, we have the Sun conjunct Lilith and the ego, represented by the Sun, joins with the fierce power of Lilith. There will be some very powerful energy around at this time. A great time to step into your power but don’t start World War Three!
On the 9th, Jupiter goes retrograde. Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and rules travel and knowledge, adventures of all kinds, religion, spirituality, and education amongst other things. When a planet changes direction, from direct to retrograde or vice versa, its energy is amplified. There can be lots of interesting things for us all to be doing. A great time to study or learn something new. Just be careful not to overdo it.
On the 12th Pluto goes direct. I think of Pluto as Cerridwen’s planet because Pluto is all about death and re-birth, transformation and regeneration. Again, because of the change of direction, this energy will be amplified. Be prepared to let go of anything that no longer serves your greatest good.
On the 13th, Mercury goes into Scorpio and your intellectual landscape might go dark and deep. Intense thoughts and deep communications will be the order of the day. A great time for will writing, or having therapy. Just be careful not to let the Scorpion have control of your tongue. This is where the sting can come in.
On the 17th , There is a full Moon in Aries. This is a great time to begin new projects, initiate new ideas, to get active and get things started. This Moon is also a Super Moon, which means the Moon is very close to the Earth and it will look very big and very bright.
And finally, on the 22nd, The Sun enters Scorpio and we begin the deep dark dive into the season of Samhain.
As the nights start drawing in, the darkness can sometimes feel all encompassing but remember that Cerridwen, our Dark Mother, holds us in Her arms through the darkest of nights. Approach the season of death and re-birth with courage knowing that with Her help, all will be well.
Blessings.
